BMI and THE ECHO have partnered for a panel series on the dos-don’ts-maybes-why not? of the music biz. Under the moniker, BACK TO SCHOOL, the monthly informative discussions will feature one topic covered by industry participants who’ve been there and done that. Q&A will be emphasized with the goal that each session ends with three points that can help you get from point A to point B. The brainchild of BMI Executive Director of Writer-Publisher Relations Tracie Verlinde and Senior Talent Buyer for The Echo/Echoplex/Spaceland Productions Liz Garo, the idea blossomed over lengthy breakfasts, drinks at CIC and too many questions from bright-eyed interns.
The premier BACK TO SCHOOL topic tackles the publishing world (what is it? how much do I give away? how can I get the money?) And how do I get money?) and will be held Saturday, Sept 17, 12noon – 1:30pm at the ECHO, 1822 Sunset Blvd, Echo Park, CA 90026. Admission is free with rsvp and $5.00 without. The panels are open to the public and all ages; early arrivals will get treated top complimentary slices of Two Boots Pizza to go along with their initial schmoozing.
Panel participants for the first event include Amanda Berman- EMI Publishing, Jeff Pachman- Domino Publishing, Dan Coleman- A Side Music, Sarah Smith- Bank Robbers Music Placement and Gus Seyffert-artist/songwriter. Bombarding panelists with CDs and flash drives not encouraged; a simple introduction and some cash should suffice.
The next panels will be Saturday, Oct 15: Booking and Touring (subtitle: How In The Hell Do I Get a Show?) and Saturday Nov 19 covers digital distribution/media/promotion (also known as Blogs Blogs Blogs)
