Hype Williams || LISTEN || WATCH
“Hype Williams, the elusive and enigmatic namesake of the cult American film director make an album drenched in avant psychedelic musique concrete. We don’t really know much about them, or how many there are of them, or where they live, or what colour socks they wear everyday according to twitter, BUT!.. judging by the sounds of this low budget collection of stomping psyche, they are clearly an act that is not confined by unlimited time and resources. As Jack White said, “time stifles creativity”. By my guess, these guys can knock up and album in a week, which would explain why their productions feel so spontaneous and with little regard for any current zeitgeist. Some of these tracks could have featured on a Nuggets compilation, while others mirror the psychedelic found-sound being put on cassette tape by US underground labels such as Crash Symbol, or Baltimore’s Culture Dealer collective. It serves as a lesson on how to do interesting things with beats and voices, with image and presentation, with ideas and ideology, and serve it up as a collection of organic aperitifs. We’re putting a £100 bounty on their heads, if anyone can find out who they are…not cut off their heads.” – Homeless Minds

Gatekeeper || LISTEN || WATCH
“Inspired by the sounds and visions of forgotten sci-fi film scores, fantasy games and arcade imagery, Gatekeeper has created its own morbidly deranged discotheque, a vivid flight of fancy in which the conventions of techno, Chicago house, italo-disco and industrial are transfigured into one phantasmagorical adventure, populated by hushed screams, Gregorian dungeon chants and cinematic washes of mammoth sound.” – Merok Records

James Ferraro || LISTEN || WATCH
“If he does not suddenly decide to fall off the radar completely, James Ferraro will be remembered alongside folks like Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore, John Maus, and Spencer Clark as one of the musicians who, at the turn of the 21st century, elevated the crackle and grain of low-fidelity recording to a field of aesthetic exploration. They claimed outmoded technologies like the 4-track and the tape deck as their own, and made the vocabulary of pop music and the preoccupations of the avant-garde seem a lot less incompatible than much of the previous century had implied.” – Altered Zones

White Car || LISTEN || WATCH
“In the rough and humble south side of Chicago, 22 year-old Elon Katz and his counterpart Orion Martin manufacture an industrial space funk sound that taps Ballard and Dionysus on the shoulder to remind them their time hasn’t run dry in 2010. The music struts a particular brand of artifice with a panache swagger that always finds new potential in its birth city’s past revelations- think the Wax Trax lexicon with touches of classic Chicago House. Katz serenades the tracks of No Better with 16-bit crushed vocals and the listener is accosted into a paranoid tale of contemporary reality: the mind’s capacity in relationship to the abundance of databanks, hunting as hobby, sexuality as commodity and the ever entangling web of online identity.” – Hippos in Tanks
